Mabel M. Campbell

Mabel M. Campbell, of Akron passed away peacefully, on July 25, 2016. She was born May 5, 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Eugene and Helen (Wilimczyk) Miller.

Mabel married the late Waverly Campbell in Buffalo in 1956. Most of her working years were spent doing office work, although three years during the war were spent in a factory operating a hand milling machine, making ball bearings for airplanes. She also worked as a reporter for the Clarence Bee and the Batavia News and had a news segment on the Rambling Lou radio show. Her last job was Office Manager for a free-standing clinic in Akron, which was part of the Buffalo General Hospital. She retired from the working world in 1984. A long-time member of the Akron First United Methodist Church, she taught Sunday school for many years and visited shut-ins and members in nursing homes on a regular basis.

She was an avid reader, always enjoyed the outdoors, animals, and babies. She had a yen to take care of sick and injured birds, animals, and people. She enjoyed semi-classical, pop, country western, and polka music.  She was an amateur musician on the accordion and chord organ. She also enjoyed doing embroidery work, quilting, and traveling and fishing with Wade.

Three children survive her: James W. (Cathy) Campbell of Akron, Helen C. (Gregory) Mosher of Hilton, and Joanne Krantz of Corfu; a daughter-in-law, Terri Campbell of Ohio; six grandchildren,William (Marie) Campbell, Miana Campbell, Ian Campbell, Joshua (Diana) Kelkenberg, Jamie (Jason) Whitesel and Catherine (Mark) Kehl and two great grandchildren, David Kehl and James Campbell. A son William Campbell, and two sisters Dorothy Hoch and Irene Miller predecease her.

Friends and relatives may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 29, 2016 at Ross Funeral Home of Akron, LLC, 10 Eckerson Avenue, Akron. A Funeral Service will take place on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. at the Akron First United Methodist Church, 7 Church Street, Akron. (Please assemble at church). Burial will follow at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in Akron.
