Roger Morris Pixley

September 18, 1929 ~ July 14, 2016 (age 86) 86 Years Old


Roger Morris Pixley, 86, of Akron, New York, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 14, 2016. Roger was born to Raymond T. Pixley and Ruth Carpenter Pixley on September 18, 1929. 

A graduate of Akron Central School in 1947, Roger enlisted in the United States Air Force and served as Pfc. in Korea during the Korean War. Roger was married to Patricia A. Pixley (Rupp) on April 17, 1951. They were married forty three years, until Pat’s death in 1994, and had four children together. He married Beverly (McGregor) in 1998. Roger and Beverly shared fifteen cherished years together.

Roger enjoyed camping with his family, golf, and gardening, and was a Past Commander of Akron American Legion 900. He worked as Transportation Superintendent at Akron Central School, retiring in 1991. After retirement, Roger enjoyed traveling, golf, and swimming at the YMCA. He could be found every summer at Watkins Glenn Speedway for the big Nascar race, enjoying some beers and laughs with his friends and family. He cherished Sunday night dinners at Jimmy and Nancy's, and playing cards with Jack. He looked forward to his Wednesday night card games at The Akron Senior Center and his Saturday night card games with his buddies.

Roger was predeceased by youngest son Craig Scott Pixley, wife Patricia (1994), brother Bruce Pixley, sister, Jean Pixley, and wife Beverly (2013). Roger is survived by his sister, Shirley Koss; three children, Deborah Skeet (Roger),  Roger Pixley (Jill) and James Pixley (Nancy O'Hara) ; seven grandchildren, Stephanie Masternak, Melissa Walter, Kristen Skeet, Michelle Hatswell, Jaime Pixley, Brittany Raykowski-Hockenberry, Marissa Raykowski, and eight great-grandchildren.

Son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and a great man, Roger loved Pat and their children. He loved his siblings, his grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren. He loved Beverly and her family. He loved Scooter the dog, the races, and his blue and white truck. He loved life, and always lived it to the fullest.

Friends and relatives may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday July 18, 2016 at Ross Funeral Home of Akron, LLC, 10 Eckerson Avenue Akron. A Funeral Service will take place at the First Baptist Church, 122 Main St., Akron  on Tuesday, at 11 am. (Please assemble at church), Burial will follow at Pioneer Cemetery.
