With a heavy heart, we announce the passing of Skyler C. Rice, known by those close to her as Sky, on January 1, 2026. Born on May 17, 2003, in Amherst, NY, Skyler's generous spirit and authenticity will be missed by all who knew her. A light has truly been extinguished with her passing.
She was a 2021 graduate of Akron High School. Skyler's radiant personality was reflected through her passion for her work as a Teacher's Aide at the CHC Learning Center. Her love for children and dedication to their education was deeply appreciated by her colleagues and students alike. Outside of work, Skyler was an exceptional individual with a wide array of interests. A talented artist, she found joy in expressing herself through her work. Skyler's love for cats was well known, and she always found time to dote on her feline friends. She was also an accomplished cheerleader in high school and continued to express her love for dance throughout her life. As a member of the Sigma Omega Chi Sorority at Daemen College, she formed lifelong friendships and cherished memories.
Skyler is survived by her mother, Kelly (Rob Cataldo) Rice, her father, Charles Schilling, her stepdad, James (Karyn Gauch) Rossi, and her siblings, Anthony, Dominic, Johnathan, Levi, Valerie, and Hazel. She will also be greatly missed by her grandparents, Karen Rice, Mark (Patricia) Rice, Cindy Schilling and Chuck (Mina Zimmerman) Schilling; her uncle Michael (Kailea Gold) Schilling and aunt, Jennifer (Tony) Caputo; her great grandparents, great aunts and uncles, many cousins and friends. She is also survived by her forever best friend, Lydia Blueye; and her significant other, James Sears whom she held most dear as well as his parents, Eric and Carol Shreves.
Friends and family are invited to gather from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at the Clarence Center United Methodist Church, 9750 Clarence Center Rd., Clarence Center, NY 14032. A Memorial Service will follow at 12:00 PM. A Celebration of Skyler's Life is being planned for Saturday, February 14, 2025. Details to follow.
