Roger Allen Johnson

Roger Allen Johnson, a loyal, funny, and cherished member of the Akron, NY community, passed away on September 8, 2026 surrounded by family. Born on August 4, 1944, in Buffalo, NY, Roger's jovial spirit and unwavering dedication to his family and work made him a beloved figure throughout his 82 years of life. As a supervising mechanic for Erie County Parks Dept., Roger's steadfast commitment to his role for over 30 years, mostly at Akron Falls Park, earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues, culminating in the Top Gun Award from Erie County.

Roger was a man of many passions, from his love for Ford Trucks and woodworking to his enjoyment of family cookouts and weekly outings with "The Breakfast Club." His love for being a grandfather and great-grandfather was immeasurable and his family was the cornerstone of his life. Roger's unique blend of strength, charm, and humor, made him a friend to all and the most interesting man to those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Carin (Bitterman) Johnson, and his cherished children Roger Floyd Johnson, Denise (Robert) Wawrzyniak, Sharleen (Steve) Heist, Michelle (Steve Adamczyk) Johnson, Marie Bell (Bob Arnold), Allen (Makayla) Johnson, Janine (Matt) DeTine. He was a loving grandfather to Cassandra, Justin, Devin, Elizabeth, Amanda, Bryce, Mason, Thomas, Jack, William, Michael; proud great-grandfather to Violet; and loving step-grandfather to, Melissa, Ryan, Kevin, and Haley. He is also survived by his siblings, David, John, Mabel, and Norma. Roger was predeceased by a son, Roger A. Johnson, Jr. and his parents, Floyd and Alice Johnson, along with his brothers, Jerry, Ernie, Bob, Laverne, Faye and his sisters, Mary and Marge.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2026 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Ross Funeral Home of Akron, LLC. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, September 14, 2026 at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 5771 Buell Rd., Akron, NY 14001.
