Roberta A. Mitten, aged 93, of Basom, New York, peacefully passed away on March 7, 2025. Born on June 18, 1931, in Alabama, NY, Roberta was a beloved figure in her community and will be deeply missed. She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Ira Mitten Jr, parents, Raymond and Verna Moses, and her brothers, Duane, Bruce, and Lloyd Moses.
Roberta devoted her life to serving others, primarily through her role as a Registered Nurse, specializing in maternity care at the United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia, NY. After retiring, she continued her service with the VNA (Visiting Nurse Association). A proud member of the Turtle Clan from the Tonawanda Indian Reservation, Roberta's deep love for her heritage was reflected in her beautiful finger-woven sashes. She was a dedicated member of her community, serving as the Treasurer for the Tonawanda Indian Baptist Church for many years and was often sought for her advice on medical emergencies. Additionally, she was a member in the History Club and Eastern Star.
Roberta is survived by her children, Claudette (Wes) General, Tina (Leroy) Stafford, Ann (Gary) Parker, and Eric (Katie) Mitten; her brother, Gary Moses; and an astounding 13 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren. Roberta was a gentle and caring soul who valued family above all else, and her memory will be cherished by all who knew her. She loved Christ and had a servant’s heart.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 PM on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at Ross Funeral Home of Akron, LLC, 10 Eckerson Avenue, Akron, NY 14001. A Funeral Service will be held at noon on Monday, March 10, 2025, at the Tonawanda Indian Baptist Church, 565 Bloomingdale Rd., Basom, NY 14013.
