Peter E. Phelps, known affectionately to his friends and family as Pete, was born in Batavia, NY, on April 30, 1938 to the late Max and Gladys (Everitt) Phelps.
He spent his years in Akron, New York, where he was a pillar of the community. For 40 dedicated years, he worked as a Service Coordinator for Strippit, Inc., retiring in 2000. Peter was not just known for his dedication to his work, but also for his love of music and sports. Peter's love for singing was well known. He sang in the First United Methodist Church of Akron for many years and was a member of the Queen City Chordsmen, and sang in a Barber Shop Quartet. He was also a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He loved golf, bowling, softball, and horse shoes, and had a special love for camping at Lei-Ti in Bethany, NY. Among his many joys, one of the greatest was being the proud owner of a pet monkey named Chico and a crow named Jimmy. Both pets never failed to bring a smile to his face during his teenage years.
Peter Phelps married the love of his life, Joan, on August 16, 1960. They shared a love story filled with joy and happiness that lasted for nearly 64 years. As a family man, Peter was the loving father of Jill (David) Porter, Lance (Renee) Phelps, Jackie (Dennis) Lotz. He was also a cherished grandfather and great-grandfather, often filling his home with stories and laughter for Michael (Nicole) Porter, Jenna (Kyle) Shay, Dylan (Bethany) Phelps, Abigail (Sean) Menzies, and his great-granddaughter Addison Phelps. He was a dear brother to Nancy (John) Geddes. Peter is also survived by his nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
A Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at Ross Funeral Home of Akron, LLC where a Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 9, 2024.
