Neda Laura Bordonaro entered into a much deserved rest on July 14th. Neda entertained her neighbors, friends, and strangers with stories about The Pope, Mount Rushmore (did you know that she actually climbed up the side of the monument?), and being a BAM (Broad Ass Marine), where she spent much of her time getting coffee to the officers.
Neda came home in 1945 and married Samuel Bordonaro after he gave her an ultimatum: “It’s now or never” and Neda knew a good thing when she saw it (so did Sam).
They had four children - Joseph, Keith, Michele, and Laurie, four grandchildren - Leslie, Marina, Max, and Olivia, as well as two great-grandchildren - Lana and Xander. Neda supported Sam in his restaurants, and supported her children in everything they tried. Neda was an amazing knitter, pie maker, and restaurant owner - opening Guy’s Subs over sixty years ago.
After Sam passed in 2006, Neda continued to work in Guy’s and was always ready for the next challenge; ready to tell the next story. She found the good in almost everyone (almost), welcomed you into her house or her garage to see the view of Murder Creek and to sit on her porch of the house given to her by her sister, Clara Varo.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 5771 Buell Street, Akron, NY 14001.
She embodied living life to the fullest, and made every day a new adventure. After 102 years, she was just getting started.
