Nancy Eckerson Obituary

Nancy Jo Eckerson, an esteemed writer, historian, and community contributor, born on November 13, 1951 in Buffalo, NY, left us on June 13, 2024. As Maya Angelou once said, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Nancy, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, was a beacon of love, wisdom, and strength who left an indelible mark on the hearts of those she encountered.

Nancy, an Akron, NY resident and alumna of Akron Central School's Class of 1969, devoted her life to community service, historical preservation, and empowering women. She served the Newstead Historical Society for over three decades as a member, newsletter editor, and docent, and held the position of the Town and Village Historian from 2007-2016. Nancy was also a long-time member of the ZONTA Club International, a global organization of professionals dedicated to empowering women. She lent her beautiful singing voice to the United Methodist Church choir for several decades, bringing joy and inspiration to many. In her professional life, Nancy was a prolific writer and owner of Write Now, Inc. After graduating from Buffalo State College with a teaching degree, she embarked on a successful writing career which included local publications like The Buffalo News, Forever Young, and The Batavia Daily News. Her work has been featured in national publications such as Back Home Magazine, and in anthologies such as Chicken Soup, Heartwarmers, Guideposts, and Hugs for the Heart. As a member of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), Nancy embodied the spirit of professionalism and empowerment.

Nancy is survived by her loving children, Jamie "Zoe" Maher (Patrick) and Nick Quartararo, and her treasured grandchildren, Cameron Kennedy, Gage Joseph, Jacob Ransom, Gianna Makayla, Junay Patricia, and Garrett Thomas Quartararo. She is also remembered by her dear brothers, John (Ethel) Eckerson and Steven (Sharon) Eckerson, and her many fond nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Joanne Eckerson.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024, from 11:00A to 1:00 PM at Ross Funeral Home of Akron, with a Memorial Service following at 1:00pm. All those who knew and loved Nancy are invited to share their memories and upload photos to the memorial page in honor of a life so beautifully lived and a woman so deeply missed.
