Michael A. Soika, of Akron, passed peacefully surrounded by family, on November 14, 2022, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. He was born in Buffalo, NY on November 6, 1960, the son of Caroline (Browning) Donnachie and the late Anthony R. Soika.
Michael was a 1979 graduate of Akron Central High School and worked most of his life as a truck driver. He was a member of the Akron Jaycees, the Newstead Fire Company, and an active member of the Akron-Newstead Senior Center where he took great pride in planning and preparing senior lunches for many years. He especially enjoyed grilling and cooking at local community events and taking rides around town on his motorcycle. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. Mike truly loved people, especially those who knew him best, his family and friends.
Loving son of Caroline Donnachie; cherished father of Mackenzie (Greg) Rapson, Elizabeth (Matt) Allen, and Jason (Susan) Hake; proud grandfather of 13 grandchildren; beloved brother of Karen (David) DeYoung, Kathleen (James, Jr.) Campbell, and Michael Donnachie; fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. Mike is also survived by many cousins and friends and will be deeply missed by all.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 10 AM at Christ Episcopal Church, 7145 Fieldcrest Drive, Lockport, NY followed by a Firemen’s Service at noon at the Newstead Fire Company, 5691 Cummings Rd., Akron, NY. with a luncheon immediately following. Everyone invited. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike’s memory to Friends of Strong Memorial Hospital.
