Lester R. Francis, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2026. He was born on January 28, 1931. A dedicated and reliable man, Lester was known for his quiet and honest demeanor, serving as a pillar of strength for his family and friends.
Lester proudly and honorably served his country during the Korean War, a reflection of his deep sense of duty, courage, and commitment to others. He had a fulfilling career as a Highway Maintenance Operator with the Erie Co. Highway Dept./DPW, from where he eventually retired. His commitment to his work was a testament to his unwavering reliability, a trait that defined him in every aspect of his life.
Lester was a beloved husband to Violet M. Danser, with whom he shared an enduring love story of 71 years, having been married on June 18, 1955. He was a loving father to Vicki (Donn) Zigrossi of East Aurora, and Kathryn (Russ) Brahmer of Clarence Center. Lester was a proud grandfather to Gabriel Simmons of East Aurora, Leah (Ryan) Wills of Dunkirk, and Tabitha Brahmer of Clarence Center. He was a cherished brother to Marjorie (late Clarence) Fry and Raymond (Sharon) Francis of Alden. Lester was predeceased by his siblings, Marian (Earl) Ribbeck, Evelyn (Nelson) Misso, and Eleanor Schneider. He leaves behind a rich legacy in numerous nieces and nephews.
In his leisure time, Lester had a profound love for the outdoors, hunting, and Nascar. He was known as a Jack of All Trades, always ready to lend his skills wherever needed. His hobbies mirrored his love for nature and his passion for life. He was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes about his character. His unwavering commitment to his family and friends, his dedicated service in his profession, and his passion for his hobbies are the facets of his life that will be remembered.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, July 17, 2026 at Ross Funeral Home of Akron, LLLC. where a Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 18, 2026. Charitable contributions may be made in Lester's memory to the Newstead Fire Company.
