Leonard Coffta Obituary

Leonard B. Coffta, born on the 8th of October, 1931 in Buffalo, NY, graced this world with his spirited and resilient personality for 93 remarkable years. Leonard was a remarkable man, a character in his own right, who lived a life filled with tenacity and determination. As a devoted welder and truck driver, he retired from Buffalo Structural Steel, leaving a legacy of hard work and dedication behind. He resided in Akron, NY, where he was an integral part of the community.

Leonard was a man of many interests, his hobbies reflecting his passion for life. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, often seen embarking on thrilling expeditions. Traveling kept his adventurous spirit alive, and his love for dancing and Octoberfest festivals never waned. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and extended his kindness as a volunteer for Hospice Buffalo, always striving to make a difference in the lives of others.

Beloved husband for over 60 years to the late Emma (Moessinger) Coffta;  cherished father to Suzanne (late Robert) Webster, James (Christine) Coffta, Joseph (Darlene) Coffta, Kathleen (John) Sims, Michelle (Randall) Hollander, and Jeffrey (Stephanie) Coffta. He was a loving "Papa" to 19 grandchildren, and "G Papa" to 23 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; dear brother to Donald (Carmella) Coffta, Gerard (Roselee) Coffta, Ralph Coffta. Leonard also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and his loving companion, Donna Kowalczyk. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Bronislaus Coffta and Estelle Kiczewski, his wife, Emma (Moessinger) Coffta, his siblings, Rita Earsing, Teresa Gallagher, and John Coffta; his son, Martin Coffta; his daughter, Carol Ann Hill; a grandson, Kevin Coffta, and a great-grandson, Noah Taylor.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 5771 Buell Street, Akron, NY 14001 with a burial following in St. Padre Pio Cemetery, Oakfield, NY. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made in Leonard's name to Hospice Buffalo, or Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
