It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Lenore Abrams on Friday, February 7, 2025 after a brief illness. Born on January 28, 1926, at 99 she was the oldest living resident of the Tonawanda Indian Reservation at the time of her death. Wife of the late Walter Abrams, she was a member of the Bear clan, and a retired records clerk for the Genesee County History Department.
A graduate of Akron High School class of 1944, she was one of two remaining classmates. Thirty years later, she returned to school, graduating in 1978 from SUNY at Buffalo with a BA in American Studies. She also graduated from Bryant and Stratton College.
An active community member, she was an original charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Myron Ground Legion Post, a member of the Octagon Squares square dancing club, a past president of the Leisuretimers, and a member of the Tonawanda Reservation Historical Society. She also served as a Girl Scout leader and participated in the Senior Olympics. She was a devoted Bills and Sabres fan.
Daughter of the late Sherry and Irene Poodry, she is survived by her daughter Barbara Abrams (Gary Thomas) of Ithaca, NY, her sons Robert and Terry, both of Basom, her grandchildren E. Matthew Kuhn (Christie Fanton) of Oakland, CA, Eliot Thomas of Ithaca, Lauren Abrams (Jason Hollister) of Ithaca, and her great-granddaughter Zoe Kuhn of Oakland, CA. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother Walter “Sam” Poodry, and her sister Mary Alessi. Also survived by her sisters-in-law, Shirley Snyder and Patricia Abrams, and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, great-grandnieces and grandnephews, and great-great-grandnieces and grandnephews.
A Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday April 11, 2025 at Ross Funeral Home of Akron, LLC, 10 eckerson Avenue, Akron, NY 14001 where a Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 2:00 PM. Donations in Lenore's memory may be made to the Town of Alabama Fire Department, the Tonawanda Reservation Historical Society, and the Haxton Memorial Library, Oakfield, NY.
