Kenneth Greer Obituary

Kenneth Greer passed away on May 19, 2020.  He was born in Buffalo on October 30, 1930 to the late Robert and Doris (Mullett) Greer.

Kenneth was a 1948 graduate of Lafayette High School. After graduation, he went on to honorably serve his country in the United States Marine Corps.  After discharge,earned a drafting degree and worked at Trico in Buffalo.  He left the office behind in 1958 and found his true calling when he joined the Erie County Sheriff's Department, where he worked in the Underwater Division before becoming a motorcycle patrol officer, retiring in 1978.  He had previously been a member of the Masonic Lodge as well as of Our Lady of Peace in Clarence, NY for several years.  He was an exempt member of the Akron Fire Company, where he served as treasurer for several years.He married Edna (Bassanello) in 1960 and they enjoyed 28 years of marriage until her passing in 1988.

Besides his wife, Kenneth was predeceased by his brother, Bobby Greer and his sister Elsie Jacobson and her husband, Arthur, sister-in-law, Naomi Greer, brother-in law Albert Bassanello and his wife, Eva, brother-in-law, Adolph Bassanello and sister-in-law Joyce Bassanello. He was the beloved father of Kirk Greer of Barnesville, OH and Karen (Jeff) Cupka, of Wilbraham, MA, cherished grandfather of Khristine Greer, Jeffrey Cupka, Kyle Cupka, and Cameron Cupka.  He also leaves his brother, John Greer, sister-in-law Anita (Bassanello) Calnan and her husband James, sister-in-law Faith Bassanello and several nieces & nephews.

Service and Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family, arrangements by Ross Funeral Home. A  gathering for close family and friends will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hearts & Hands, 1412 Sweet Home Road, Suite 12, Amherst, NY 14228 or to the Akron Volunteer Fire Company.
