Keith Kraatz of Akron, NY passed away peacefully at home on September 17, 2026. Loving son of Glenn and Marian Kraatz, he is survived by his wife, Shirley, his daughters, Debbie and Bonnie (Mark), his three grandchildren: Casey (Andrew), Nicholas (Rayna), and Carly (Scott), and his great-granddaughter, Elizabeth (“Ellie”).
Keith lived for adventure and family. He loved summer camping, fishing, motorcycle rides, and boat trips with his family. Winter brought one of his favorite pastimes: Snowmobile trail rides, complete with a mid-trail winter picnic to make a day of it. Nothing brought him greater joy than spending quality time with his “Three girls.”
By his grandchildren, Keith will be remembered not only for his unconditional love, camaraderie in mischief, and uncanny ability to win at card games, but also his quiet gentleness, and as a true storyteller.
Keith worked at Kraaatz Farm his entire life, a place that remained close in his heart. He also worked for many years for the Town of Pembroke, where he took genuine enjoyment in plowing snow every winter, often recounting memories of working through the infamous Blizzard of 1977. Until his retirement, Keith worked as a heavy machinery operator for over 30 years at local quarries where he was called “Big Red” by his coworkers.
Keith will be dearly missed by all his friends and family, but most of all by his devoted wife of 63 years, Shirley. Keith passed away doing what he loved best: holding his wife’s hand.
Following a private burial, a memorial service and luncheon will be held for family and friends on Saturday, September 26th at 11:30 AM at High Pont Church, 1163 Main Street., Corfu, NY 14036. Arrangements were made by Ross Funeral Home of Akron, LLC. To share memories and condolences with Keith’s family, please visit rossakron.com.
