Kathryn Johannes Obituary

Kathryn "Kathy" Johannes, a spirited, witty, and funny woman departed from this world on May 2, 2024, leaving a legacy of love, laughter, and unshakeable faith. Born in Buffalo, NY, on August 22, 1930 to the late James and Doris Geddes, Kathryn was a beacon of light and joy throughout her 93 years.

She spent her professional career in transportation, but her real joy came from being the heart and soul of her very large family. A passionate matriarch, she was the backbone of her clan, a role she embraced with a dazzling smile and open arms. Kathryn had a zest for life that was infectious. She had a knack for making everyone feel special, whether it was through her quick wit or her nurturing embrace. She loved square dancing and challenging her mind with crossword puzzles and word searches. She especially enjoyed solving puzzles on Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Her faith was a cornerstone in her life, as a lifetime member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Akron. Her belief in God's goodness and grace was evident in her character, reflecting the verse from Proverbs 31:25, "She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future."

She was the beloved wife of her late husband for over 36 years, with whom she shared a beautiful journey of love and companionship until his death in 1990. Her love overflowed to her children Laural, Cheryl (Tom), Robert (Tammy), Kathryn (Walter), Richard (Kim), and Jennifer (Daniel). Grandma was a title she wore with pride, cherished by her 20 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister in law, Francis Geddes. Kathy is preceded in death by her late husband, Richard Johannes; her grandchildren Tanya Johannes and Robby Johannes; her brothers, Jimmy and Rodrick Geddes; her sister, Doreen Geddes; and her devoted companion for over 20 years, Herman Midecke.
