Kathleen P. Akin, aged 83, of Akron, NY, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2025. Born in Westfield, NY on July 4, 1940, Kathleen was the cherished daughter of the late Alpheus and Grace Lanphere. She was united in marriage to her beloved husband, Jim Akin, on August 5, 1961, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love and laughter. Kathleen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She leaves behind her husband of 64 years, Jim Akin; her loving children, Jim (Lynne) Akin, Anne (John) Sowinski, late Tom (Dorothy Lee) Akin, Bob (Denise) Akin; cherished grandchildren, Ashley (Joseph), Kailey (David), Abbey, Peter (Sarah), Alicia, Erin (Kyle), Christine (Andrew), Katlynn, Amanda, Sean (Katie), Jason (Autumn) Carrie, Ryan, Zac, Will, Cole; as well as eight great-grandchildren. Kathleen also leaves behind her dear siblings, Edward (Sylvia) Lanphere, Suzanne (David) McKenry, and Mary Jane (Harry) Mosier, along with many loving nieces and nephews.
A dedicated professional, Kathleen worked as a Transportation Secretary for Perry's Ice cream until her retirement. She had a passion for the outdoors, particularly her flower garden, and was an avid knitter and puzzle enthusiast. Her commitment to her community was evident through her longtime membership in the Akron Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and her years spent coordinating the Red Cross Blood Drive in Akron.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Ross Funeral Home of Akron, LLC., 10 Eckerson Avenue, Akron, NY, 14001. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Akron First United Methodist Church, 7 Church Street, Akron, New York, 14001. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made in Kathleen's memory to Akron First United Methodist Church.
