John A. Jonathan of Basom, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 9, 2023. He was born in Buffalo on December 22, 1955. His parents were the late Milton and Marjorie (Ground) Jonathan.
John was a 1974 graduate of Akron Central High School and went on to honorably serve in the United States Navy. He worked for over 30 years for Delphi as a forklift operator. John was a proud member of the Turtle Clan and Faithkeeper of the Longhouse. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #1352 and the United Auto Workers Union.
His passion for auto-racing was infectious, and he spent many a weekend at the race track. His love for sports extended beyond the race track, encompassing everything from cheering on his grandchildren at their Lacrosse matches to friendly games of Closest to the Pin with family members. His enthusiasm and passion were contagious, and his presence at these events will be deeply missed.
Beloved husband of Darlene (Reuben) Jonathan; loving father of five, Nadine (Kenith) Jonathan, Shamnie (Justin) Abrams, Casey (Abby) Jonathan, Montina (Obes) Hill and Lucas Jonathan. Proud grandfather of 24 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. John is also survived by 5 brothers, 3 sisters and his three native friends: Nadine, Lincoln, Lloyd. Many nieces and nephews also survive him.
Friends and relatives may call on Friday, August 11, 2023 at 6941 Council House Road on the Tonawanda Indian Reservation until the time of the Funeral Service at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2023. A Long House service will follow at 2 p.m. Arrangements by Ross Funeral Home of Akron, LLC.
