John T. Ernst

November 28,1944 – January 11, 2026 

Age 81, of Akron, NY, passed away on January 11, 2026. Born in Buffalo, he was the beloved husband of over 56 years to Sheila Ernst (Beimler). John is also survived by his children Scott Ernst (Jeanne), Melanie Tarantelli (Christopher) and Leah Mueller (Timothy); grandchildren Evan and William Mueller, Kellen and Meredith Ernst, and Sophia and Gabriel Tarantelli, brother Anthony Ernst, sister Mary (Hubert) and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by siblings Norma, Teresa, Raymond, Joseph, Catherine, Martin, Edward, and Sharon. 

John was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served in Vietnam. He was a lifelong member of the Knights of Saint John for 63 years in Commandery 135 and also served his community as a member and officer of the Akron-Newstead Senior Center. John was an avid golfer, bowler, gardener, and outdoorsman. 

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, January 19, 2026 at 10:00 am at Saint Teresa of Avila Church, 5771 Buell Street, Akron, New York, 14001.
