Joan Peters

Joan Peters, went home to be with the Lord on March 27, 2023. She was born in Basom, NY on May 17, 1933 to the late Howard and Viola (Parker) Sillaway.

Joan was a member of the Hawk Clan and 1950 graduate of Akron Central High School. She belonged to several Tonawanda Indian organizations: the Tonawanda Indian Baptist Church, the Tonawanda Indian Historical Society, and the Tonawanda Seneca Singers. She worked for three different companies during her lifetime and actually retired from all three: Westinghouse, Perry’s Ice Cream, and Trek. Joan had a great passion for cooking and was the proud proprietor of Joandy’s Place in Basom.

Beloved mother of Jill Peters, Janet Faye (William) Brockway, and Thomas Peters; cherished grandmother of 9; great-grandmother of 17; great- great grandmother of 7; dear sister of James Sillaway and Janet Sillaway; fond aunt of many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Ellison Peters; a son, David Peters; a daughter, Lori Peters and a sister, Sue Winnie.
  
Friends and relatives may call on Saturday, April 1, 2023 from 9 to 11 AM at the Tonawanda Indian Baptist Church, 585 Bloomingdale Road, Basom, NY where a funeral service will take place at 11 AM.
