Janice Sutton Obituary

Janice Elaine (Everett) Sutton, of Akron, NY, passed away peacefully at home on June 5, 2025, at the age of ninety-three. Born on May 11, 1932 in Akron, Janice was a beloved figure in her community and a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. 

Janice was known for her lifelong love of learning and philanthropy. She enjoyed the sisterhood of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.) in the St. Cloud, Florida and Amherst, NY chapter for over 30 years. She was also proud of her service as a Girl Scout Troop Leader, past trustee of the United Methodist Church of Akron and volunteer work supporting the Red Cross at the Buffalo Veterans Association Hospital. She was a member of the St. Cloud Florida Women's Club and a lifelong member of the NRA and the Empire State Arms Co. Janice appreciated art, poetry, travel, countless meaningful friendships and was a hot air balloon enthusiast.

Janice is survived by her daughters, Christine (Louis) Kraatz and Dawn (late Steven) O'Conner; grandchildren, Andrew Kraatz and Stephanie (Kraatz) Conner; proud great-grandmother of Bailey Conner; sister Nancy (Everett) Dibble (Thomas Dibble); the children and family of Daniel Dibble and Tammy (Dibble) Kerstann; the children and family of Mark Nice, Laura (Nice) Bachorski, and Lynda (Nice) Wirth; and nephew Edwin Sutton (Corky Sutton) and family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Edwin Sutton; parents, Herbert and Mary (Reigle) Everett; and sister, Jaqueline (Everett) Nice. The family expresses the sincerest gratitude to those who provided daily care and the Hospice team that guided Janice though the end of her journey on earth.

Visitation will be held at the Ross Funeral Home of Akron, 10 Eckerson Avenue, Akron, NY, 14001, on Friday, June 13, 2025, from 4:00-7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, any charitable donations may be made in Janice's name to the Knight-Sutton Museum c/o the Newstead Historical Society. In remembrance of Janice, we invite all who knew and loved her to share their memories and upload photos to the memorial page. It is through these shared experiences that we honor the full life that Janice lived and how she touched the hearts of many across all walks of life.
