It is with both sorrow and love in our hearts that we announce the passing of Helga M. Vanice on June 5, 2026. Born in Batavia, NY on March 1, 1968, Helga's infectious laughter, and witty humor filled every room she entered, and her compassion was as boundless as her love for marzipan. Her presence, often described as 'loud,' was a testament to her zest for life and her unyielding love for her family and friends.
After Helga attended Akron High School, she held a variety of positions, working for Akron Rule, Whiting Door, the American Legion L.L. Tillman Post 900, the Akron Central School District, and the Akron VFW. She remained a lifelong resident of Akron, New York, never leaving the community she proudly called home.
Helga's love of life was only surpassed by her love for her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she cherished deeply. Helga was a lover of shopping, finding joy in the little things, and had a remarkable ability to turn any ordinary day into a special occasion. Her wit and humor kept those around her smiling, while her compassion comforted those in need.
She is survived by her daughter Gina (Eric) Thierrin and son Adam Keller; her grandchildren, Owen, Claire, and Ava Thierrin; her siblings, Michael Vanice, Tom (late Rhonda) Vanice, Peggy (late David) Backe, Luann Hunt, Laura (Pat Darcy) Olszewski, Chauncey (late Kim) Vanice III and Barbara (Scott) Sitzman. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and her beloved partner, Steven "Buzz" Kolly. Helga was preceded in death by her parents, Helga and Chauncey Jr. and her nephew Herbie Pechuman.
Friends and family may call on Saturday, June 13, 2026 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Ross Funeral Home of Akron, LLC where a Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 PM. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery in Marilla, NY. Charitable contributions may be made in Helga's memory to Western New York BloodCare,1010 Main Street, Buffalo, NY 14202.
As we remember and celebrate the life of Helga, we encourage all who knew her to share their favorite memories and photos on her memorial page. Your stories and pictures will serve as a lasting tribute to the remarkable life of this witty, funny, compassionate, and loving woman.
