Gary Lee Baker

Gary Lee Baker passed away on June 13, 2023. He was born on October 3, 1938 in Newstead, NY to the late Mark and Beatrice (Ogden) Baker. 

Gary was a lifetime resident of Akron, NY, where he worked as a farmer and was employed by Harrison Radiator for 32 years. He was an avid bowler, loved pheasant hunting, and enjoyed watching NASCAR Racing, with his favorite driver being Kyle Bush. Gary was also a dedicated Buffalo Bills fan. He was married to Marie Baker, with whom he shared a beautiful life since October 25, 1958. Together, they raised two children, Cheryl (Pierce) Mooney and Tom (Theresa) Baker. What mattered most to Gary were his work and family, showcasing his unwavering loyalty and love for those closest to him. He was a one of a kind guy and truly a good man who exemplified kindness, ethics, hard work and loyalty. He was a man who said many important and meaningful things through very few words.  

Loving husband of Marie (Brightenfield) Baker; beloved father of Cheryl (Pierce) Mooney and Tom (Theresa) Baker; cherished Papa of Rachel (Brian) Barnard, Alyssa (Christopher) Tsai, Shannon (Daniel) Sank and Mark Baker; proud great-grandfather of eleven. Gary is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Leslie and Bruce Baker.

Calling hours will take place on Thursday, June 15, 2023, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Ross Funeral Home of Akron, LLC., located at 10 Eckerson Avenue, Akron, New York, 14001 with a  funeral service immediately following at 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Gary's memory to the Newstead Fire Company or the First Baptist Church of Akron.
