Eugene H. Schuler (Gene) 92 of Akron went home to his Savior on March 4, 2020. Wonderful father of Brenda (Carl) Carothers; Thomas (Shari) Schuler; and Cherie (Jeff) Subra; and Grandfather to eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Born May 15, 1927, in Lockport where he lived a simple life and eventually moved to Akron at the age of 16. He was a great storyteller of his life events and shared many memories, often referencing specific dates that occurred years ago. He had a superior memory, and due to the many places he traveled in his life he was jokingly referenced as a walking atlas.
When he was 17 he joined the United States Navy, proudly serving in WWII as a SeaBee on a LST landing ship stationed in Okinawa Japan. His company was assigned to build a new airstrip still in use to this day. He often shared with us his many memories of his time in the service, and we are all so proud of the fact that he was a member of the Greatest Generation.
When he returned from the Navy, he literally married the girl next door, who was the love of his life. A marriage lasting just shy of 70 years.
Joining him in heaven include his parents, Benjamin and Evelyn Schuler; his loving wife Geraldine (Snell) Schuler; granddaughter, Michelle Bewley, and grandson, Steven Carothers; brothers and sisters, Lloyd Schuler, Lorraine Devereaux, Katherine Granzow, Nina Roberts, Emily Osterlee, Benjamin Schuler, Alice Brigham, and Richard Schuler.
He was a life-long member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon for many years. Gene enjoyed traveling in the motorhome with his family and always cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren.
