Dorothy M. Routledge, fondly known as Dottie, passed away on March 25, 2026. Born in Medina, NY on September 29, 1931 to the late Thomas and Ruth Scanlon, Dorothy spent the majority of her life in Akron, New York, where she became a cherished member of the community.
Throughout her life, Dorothy worked at a number of local restaurants, including Da-Nite and Christie’s. She also worked at Ford Gum and Culligan Water, all while holding onto her dream of owning a hot dog stand. That dream became a reality when she became co-owner and operator of D&D View of the Falls Hotdog & Ice Cream Stand—a goal she was proud to finally achieve. Yet Dorothy was defined by far more than her professional accomplishments. In her early years, she was an active member of 4-H and the Young Co-ops, where she proudly served as State Secretary. She was also a member of the Cam Snappers Car Club. A woman of deep faith and service, Dorothy was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Akron, where she taught Sunday school for over 50 years. She was also an active member of the Akron Celebration Committee, the Akron Lioness Lions Club, a dedicated Girl Scout leader, and a member of the Newstead Historical Society.
Dorothy had a deep love for nature and the outdoors. She found joy in flowers, in the beauty of the changing seasons, and in time spent outside. Throughout her life, she shared a special bond with her many dogs, each of whom held a cherished place in her heart—especially her beloved dog, Dukie. Through all of these roles and passions, Dorothy touched countless lives and left a lasting mark on her community.
She is survived by her children, John (Kristin) Routledge and Mary (Dale) Christensen; her grandchildren, Karlie, Thomas (Kelsie), and Robert (Olivia) Routledge; her great-grandchildren, Avianna, Aiden, and Laynie Routledge; her sister-in-law, Naomi Strickland; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband, John "Jack" Routledge, and her brother, Donald (late Doreen) Scanlon.
A visitation will be held on April 11, 2026 from 1:00pm-4:00pm at Ross Funeral Home of Akron, LLC. 10 Eckerson Ave. Akron, NY. A memorial service will take place on Sunday, April 12, 2026 at 2:00pm at First United Methodist Church of Akron. We invite those who knew and loved Dorothy to share their memories and upload photos to her memorial page.
