Dennis Schweigert Sr., born on December 22, 1952, in Buffalo, NY, passed away on July 9, 2025. He was known for his dedication to his community and his passion for the outdoors. Dennis, a beloved father, grandfather, and brother, will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love for NASCAR, and his fondness for fishing.
Dennis spent a significant portion of his life working as a butcher at Tops Friendly Markets until his retirement. His dedication to his work was paralleled only by his commitment to service within his community. As a lifetime member of the Newstead Fire Company, a member of the Crittenden Fire Company, and a member of the Clarence Newstead Fire Police Association, Dennis demonstrated his unwavering commitment to others. His efforts extended further as he often volunteered for Mercy Flight, always ready to lend a hand where needed.
Dennis is survived by his daughters, Jennifer (Mark) Maier and Monica (Elise) Benbenek; his grandchildren, Jacob Cummings, Julianna Cummings, Alex, Makayla, Grant, and Garet Schweigert; and his sisters, Karen (Jay) Friedman and Sharon (Michael) Matot. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Dennis Schweigert, Jr., and his parents, Norbert and Olive Schweigert.
Dennis's life will be commemorated with a gathering of friends and relatives on Monday, July 14, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, 4375 Harris Hill Road, Williamsville, NY 14221.
