David R. Sescil, a lifelong resident of Akron, New York and a pillar of the agricultural community, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2023. Born on January 12, 1954, in Buffalo, New York, to the late Robert and Shirley (Marshall) Sescil, Dave's life was a testament to the values of hard work, family, and love for the land.
A 1973 graduate of Akron Central High School, David carried the mantle of his family's farming legacy with vigor and commitment that was unparalleled. For David, the farm was not just a place of work, but a labor of love, a sanctuary where he found peace, strength, and fulfillment. His genuine love for the land and its creatures shaped his career as a farmer, working tirelessly while also being an active member of the Erie County Farm Bureau. On December 30, 1983, he joined hands in matrimony with his beloved Kimberly Brown, and together they nurtured a beautiful family, sharing joys, challenges, and their love for the farm life. David's affection for animals was palpable; he would go to any lengths to ensure their well-being. When not on the farm, he cherished his trips to Disney, where he reveled in the magic and joy that is the "Happiest Place on Earth."
David leaves behind his loving wife of 39 years, Kimberly (Brown) Sescil; his beloved children, Ryan D. Sescil, Brianne (Edward) Matrak, and Hilary (Phillip) Suraf; five cherished grandchildren, Sydney Suraf, Juliet Matrak, Edward David Matrak, Jameson Suraf, and Remington Suraf; a brother, Douglas (Judy) Sescil and a sister, Margaret (Timothy) McGowan; and several nieces and nephews.
On Friday, October 13th, 2023 from 10AM-12PM family will be present for condolences followed by a Memorial Service at The One Church, 6 Scotland Rd., Akron, NY 14001 with arrangements made by Ross Funeral Home of Akron, LLC. Charitable contributions may be made in Dave’s memory to Erie County 4-H, 21 S Grove St., East Aurora, NY 14052 or The One Church. We invite you to share photos and stories that celebrate David's life. His memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched, and his legacy will endure through the land he loved so dearly.
