Christopher L. Cummings

It is with profound sadness, yet immense gratitude for a life well-lived, that we announce the passing of Christopher Leon Cummings on July 4, 2025, a dedicated and loving man whose sense of humor and intelligence touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. 

Chris led an extraordinary life characterized by service and commitment. A highly respected member of the law enforcement community, he served as a Major in the New York State Police, retiring in 2013. His dedication to serving the community earned him the admiration of his colleagues and the community at large. After his retirement he continued to serve the community at the ECMC Police Department and as the Town of Alden judge. 

Chris was not only smart and funny, but he also had a compassionate heart, always willing to lend a helping hand. Beyond his professional life, he was a man of many interests, including camping, traveling, farming and fulfilling his dream of owning his dump truck “Pete”.  He was a member of the Erie County Fair Board and took pride in his early experiences growing up on the Cummings Farm.

Chris cherished his family above all else. He shared an incredible bond with his wife Stacy, who was his rock and his confidante. He was a loving father to his son Matthew, who has grown to be a man he was proud of. He was a beacon of love and strength for his siblings Susan (Rex) Winkley, Darlene (Alan) Graff, Doreen (Jimmy) Strickland, Elwyn (Ivonne) Cummings, Lisa (Jim) Cummings, and Isaac (Heather) Cummings.  He is survived by his loving Aunt Audrey (late Jack) Tuchols. He was the honored “Uncle Chris” of many wonderful nieces and nephews. A loyal friend to countless others.  He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Elwyn and Shirley Cummings. 

A celebration of Chris's life will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at the Newstead Fire Company, 5691 Cummings Rd., Akron, NY 14001, from 12:00 - 4:00 PM with services at 2:00 PM. As we gather to remember and honor Chris, we invite you to join us in celebrating his remarkable life and sharing the memories he left us with.
