Arlene A. Snyder, 95, of Akron, NY, died December 1, after living a full life. She was born October 25, 1929 to Richard and Louise Wideman. She was a life time resident of Akron, a supportive farmwife and dedicated homemaker.
While attending Ontario Bible School, she met a handsome Canadian, Leighton Snyder. They were married September 9, 1951 and enjoyed life together for 66 years.
Arlene was a lifetime member of Clarence Center-Akron Mennonite Church, where she served her Lord as a Bible School and Sunday School teacher and made great coconut cream pies for potlucks. Arlene worked part-time in Food Service at Akron Central School, as a cafeteria worker for 20 years.
Arlene and Leighton retreated to the warmth of Sarasota, Florida, for 26 winters, where they enjoyed the fellowship and activities of Bahia Vista Estates.
For the last 6 years, Arlene was a resident of Vinecroft Retirement Community, taking part in as many activities as possible. Hobbies included caring for the plants, watching birds and making new friends.
Arlene is survived by her children, Lorna and Mel Claassen, Goshen, IN, Luanne and Don Livingston, Akron, NY, and Ron and Cheryl Snyder, Akron, NY, grandchildren, Jeff and Mariko Claassen, Goshen, IN, Miriam and Abel Larkin, Castorland, NY, Dane Livingston, Akron, NY, Brice and Allison Livingston, Sarasota, FL, Caleb and Kim Snyder, Mechanicsville, VA, Chris and Amanda Snyder, Akron, NY, Rachel and Kyle Niermann, Findlay, OH and Beth and Trey Wilds, Pedro, OH and 13 great grandchildren. She loved her family and prayed for each one by name daily. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Norine Snyder, many nieces, nephews and countless friends who will miss her dearly. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Louise Wideman, 2 sisters and 1 brother, her husband Leighton in 2018, and a granddaughter, Heidi Claassen.
Friends and Family may call from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, December 27, 2024 at Ross Funeral Home of Akron, LLC., 10 Eckerson Avenue, Akron, NY. A Memorial Service will take place Saturday, December 28, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Clarence Center-Akron Mennonite Church, 11500 Clarence Center Rd., Akron, NY 14001.
