Vernon Gay

Otis Vernon Gay of Akron, NY age 78 died February 28, 2017.

Dear son of the late Otis and Gladys Gay; loving husband of Jean (Bliss) for 55 years; proud father of JoAnn (late Phillip) Soro, Jeffrey (Ellen) Gay, Kevin Gay, Kelly(Wendy) Gay and Robert Gay; loving grandfather of Stephanie (Adam) Hilarie, Megan and Charles Soro, Scott, Keith, Kevin, Derek, Ashley and Allyson Gay; dear brother of Frank (Dorothy) Phillips, Velma Overholt, Richard (Donna) Gay, Louise (Patrick) Outten, Helen Collura and Michael; dear uncle to many nieces and nephews. Vern is predeceased by his siblings, Margie Phillips, William and Gene Phillips, Mallie Gay, Pauline (Richard) Roll.

Vern attended Lancaster High School and was an All Star member of their 1955 and 1956 "Redskins" team. He retired from Frontier Stone (LaFarge) where he had been a blaster for many years. His greatest passion and joy other than his children was coaching youth baseball and football which he did for over 15 years in Alden, New York.

Friends and family may call from 2 - 4p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2017 at Ross Funeral Home of Akron, LLC, 10 Eckerson Avenue, Akron, NY where a Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Flowers gratefully declined, if you desire please consider a donation to your local youth sports team in Vern's memory.
