Leroy George of Basom, died suddenly on June 28, 2019. He was born July 9, 1941 in Nedrow, New York to the late Earl and Beatrice (Smith) George.
He was a proud member of the Snipe Clan. Leroy had a long work history. He started driving for Perry’s Ice Cream and then for National Gypsum. After the mine closed, he went to work for the New York State Department of Transportation and retired as a foreman. He also was a part-time bus driver for Akron Central Schools and did maintenance work for Steve Baldo Chevrolet. Leroy was a member of the Newstead Fire Department for over 47 years, were he was a longtime Sergeant of Arms. He was a past president and treasurer of The Newstead Exempt Club as well as a past president of the Clarence-Newstead Fire Police Association.
His beloved wife Sylvia survives Leroy. Five children, Marnita (Rodger) Jones, Rodney George, Allyn George, Melvin (Mary) George, and Louise George survive him. A brother, Alvin George; two half-brothers, Danny and Wayne Smith; 11 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren;many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive Leroy. A brother Sid George, sister Victoria Degonzaqe and great-grandson Dean predeceased him.
Friends and relatives may call at 590 Council House Road until the time of Service at 1PM on Monday, July 1, 2019 with a 2 PM Longhouse Service. Arrangements by Ross Funeral Home of Akron, LLC.
