Doug Scarborough passed away peacefully on September 26, 2018. He was born in Batavia on June 19, 1956 to the late Gerald and Nina (Cummings) Scarborough.
Doug is best known for his lifelong connection with Evergreen Lawn Cemetery where he has worked since the early age of 17. He was a 1974 graduate of Akron Central High School and went on to receive an Associate’s Degree in Photography from Genesee Community College. His passions for photography and writing led him to teach photography at GCC and work for the Batavia Daily Newspaper. Doug was the Deputy Town Historian and a dedicated member of the Akron Newstead Historical Society. He enjoyed interacting with people and most recently sold wine and headstones.
His companion Ally survives Doug as well as several aunts, uncles, and many cousins.
Friends and relatives may call from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 27, at Ross Funeral Home of Akron, LLC, 10 Eckerson Avenue where a funeral service will take place on Friday at 10 a.m. The family would appreciate memorials made in Doug’s name to: The Akron/Newstead Historical Society or the S.P.C.A.
