Donald Lyle Snell 86, passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital. He was born on January 15, 1931 in Akron to the late Wilfred and Arletta (Corbett) Snell.
Donald, a life-long resident of Akron, served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. After leaving the Army, he married Yvonne "Bonnie" Chew on September 24, 1955 and they had three children together. Those who knew Don knew how much he loved and supported his family. Don was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Akron where he served as a Deacon for several years as well as President of the Crusaders Couples Group. He was also one of the founders of Akron Sports Inc.
Don is survived by his wife of 61 years Bonnie; a son, David (Cecelia) Snell; a daughter, Lu Ann (John) Franke; three grandchildren, Jonathan Snider, Christopher Snell and Sarah (Ben) Trapani; five great-grandchildren, Cyle, Casey, Caleb, Joshua, and Mia. A brother, Merle Snell of FL; two sisters, Geraldine (Eugene) Schuler and Sandra (James) Stuart and several nieces and nephews also survive him. A son, James Donald Snell and a sister, Carol (Snell) Schultz predeceased Don.
Friends and relatives may call on Saturday, July 15, 2017 from 4 - 7 p.m. at Ross Funeral Home of Akron, LLC, 10 Eckerson Avenue, Akron, NY 14001. A Funeral Service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 12752 Lewis Rd. on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Memorials may be made in Don's memory to Calvary Baptist Church.
