Anthony Richard Soika, of Akron passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on July 27, 2019. He was born on July 11, 1936 in Akron, NY to the late Peter and Victoria (Dtuzniewska) Soika.
Tony grew up in Akron and attended Akron Central Schools. He retired from Whiting Rollup Door in 2007. He was a member of The Polka Boosters, The Polish Variety Club, The Polka Originals, The Akron Newstead Senior Center and The Tonawanda Senior Center. He was an avid Polka dancer and would be seen weekly on the television shows Pic-A-Polka and Polka Buzz. He loved playing cards, especially Euchre and Pinochle and especially loved spending time at his summer home in Leisurewood.
Loving husband of Frieda (Juskowski) Soika; beloved father of Karen (David) DeYoung, Kathleen (James F., Jr.) Campbell, Michael Soika, Deborah Alam, and John (Denise) Wackowski. Proud grandfather of Kimberly (Stephen) Akina, Paula (Todd) Shears, Andrew (Kelly) DeYoung, Bryon DeYoung, J. Chadwick Fortner, Mackenzie (Greg) Rapson Jr., Elizabeth Soika, Derek (Candice) DeYoung, Christopher (Casey) Campbell, Andrew (Ariel) Campbell, Jason Hake, Theresa (Joseph) Christensen and Jacob Wackowski. Tony is also survived by 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A brother, Chester Kurys and a sister, Helen Sack predecease him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St.Teresa’s Roman Catholic Church on Saturday August 10, 2019 at 10 a.m..
