Adolph Bassanello

April 4, 1924 ~ March 31, 2017 (age 92) 92 Years Old

Adolph Bassanello, 92, of Akron passed away peacefully surrounded by family, on March 31, 2017. He was born April 4, 1924 in Niagara Falls, New York to the late John and Regina (Favoretto) Bassanello.

Adolph led a long, dedicated, service filled life. He served our nation as a Naval Aviator during WWII. He continued to serve in the Reserves until he retired with the rank of Commander in 1975. He was Postmaster of Akron for 18 years until his retirement in 1987. Adolph joined the Akron Fire Company in 1948, where he served in many different capacities, including Chief. He was awarded Fireman of the Year four times; the last time being in 2011. Adolph was a Village Trustee from 1963 to 1966 and Mayor of Akron from 1967 to 1968. He was awarded the Akron Democrat of the Year in 2006. He was also a member of the American Legion LL Tillman Post 900. Adolph was very proud to be one of the original Jolly Boy’s (1972). He loved to travel and traveled extensively after he retired.

He is survived by his wife Faith Marie (Caulfield); children, Michael (Sandra) Bassanello, Patricia (Lynn) Childs-Schafer, Mary Joy Bassanello; stepchildren, Sean Reilly, Jim (Laurie) Reilly, Patrick (Karen) Reilly, and Denise Reilly. A sister, Anita (James) Calnan; 13 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren also survive Adolph. His first wife, Joyce (Schultz) predeceases him.

Friends and relatives may call from 3 to 8 p.m. on Monday April 3, 2017 at Ross Funeral Home of Akron, LLC, 10 Eckerson Avenue Akron. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Teresa’s Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, at 10 am. (Please assemble at church).
