George Welch Obituary

It is with fond remembrance that we celebrate the life of George Niles Welch, who left us peacefully on March 28, 2024. Born in Philadelphia, PA, on January 26, 1942, George was a steadfast man of faith, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His life was one of dedication and service, made rich by the love he poured into his family and the joy he found in his passions.

George married his beloved wife, Anna "Betty" (Gartley) Welch, on November 30, 1963. Their 60-year story was one of unwavering commitment, shared laughter, and a deep bond that was a testament to their devotion. He was a proud father to Sharon (John) Ruth, and Lisa Welch, a loving grandfather to Evelyn (Justin), Elizabeth (Craig), Samuel, Emily, Jeremiah, Isaiah, and Joshua, and a great-grandfather to Matthias and Nehemiah. Each of them will remember the legacy of George's kind spirit, love for family, and faith.

George's career as a cooper spanned decades, retiring from Greif Brothers in Aston, PA. His work was a testament to his strength and commitment. Yet, in his personal faith in his Lord, George found true strength. A member of the First Baptist Church of Collingdale, his faith was a guiding light in his life. Throughout the physical hardships he endured at the end of his walk, he found strength in Romans 8:28, "And we know all things work together for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." George was called by the Lord in 1982 and put his faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. At that moment, George understood Romans 3:28, "For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from observing the law." He continued walking with the Lord until he breathed his final breath and woke in the Lord's presence.

George also found joy in simple pleasures such as fishing on the Delaware River, listening to Country and Gospel music, and caring for his cats. His life was one of meaning, made richer by his love for his family and his faith.

George is survived by his sister, Ethel (David) Hahn, and was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Ethel Welch. His memory will forever be cherished by his surviving family and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
