Karen Sowinski passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Friday, December 15, 2017. She was born in Hamilton, Ontario on September 5, 1943 to the late John and Beatrice (Gravelle) Mills. She moved with her parents to East Pembroke in 1953 and later resided in Corfu and Darien Center.

Karen graduated from  Corfu Central High School in 1961, she worked as a nurse's aide at Saint Jerome's Hospital in Batavia where she met her husband to whom she was married over 50 years, the late Joseph Sowinski. She also worked as an aide at the Brothers of Mercy Nursing Home in Clarence. She was a member of Saint Teresa of Avila Parish and also the Akron Newstead Senior Group.

Beloved mother of Stephen and Paul Sowinski; dear sister of James (Gloria) Mills, John (Barbara) Mills, and Elizabeth (Salvatore) DiRaimo; she was a cherised aunt to several nieces and nephews. Karen is predeceased by a son, Joseph Sowinski and daughter, Mary Sowinski as well as a brother, William Joseph Mills. Karen was thankful for her kind and generous friends and neighbors Shirley and Dennis Popp who were always there for her. Her pets Cody, Goldie, and Smokey filled her life with laughter and joy.

A  Mass of Christian Burial is planned for Saturday, January 13, 2018, 10:00 a.m. at Saint Teresa of Avila Parish, 5779 Buell Street, Akron, NY.
